Yellow weather warning for rain

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for the weekend which covers western parts of the Borders.

Key information

Warning runs from 12noon on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday

Warning area covers western/south western parts of the Borders, including Ettrick, Craik and Newcastleton, and stretches to just west of Hawick, Bonchester Bridge and Southdean.

Up to 40mm of rain possible across the warning area, with up to 80mm falling on high ground

Heavy rain will be accompanied by strong winds

Risk of surface water flooding due to saturated ground

Outbreaks of rain will spread in from the west during Saturday, eventually clearing away during Sunday afternoon and evening. The rain will be heavy at times with accumulations 30-40 mm developing quite widely and locally 60-80 mm across high ground. Strong southwesterly winds are also possible at times.
